The Artist's Retreat: Destiny

Wooden Dancer

When I came across this original artwork on instagram, I knew it'd be perfect for staging a home. What started out as a simple comment on the beauty of Destiny's work led to a great friendship. Destiny offered to mail me (a complete stranger)  her original piece of art to use in one of my staged homes. I was ecstatic!

So much so, it inspired my design for an entire room. What was to be a modern bedroom, was reimagined as a lush artist's retreat filled with my own canvasses and paints. All, to showcase this stunning, and yet seemingly effortless, creation by a brilliant young artist I found online.

Destiny Pelley is an American art student of digital and traditional media. Though she likes many forms of art, she greatly enjoys expressing herself through illustrative concepts and cartoons, both usually consisting of animal subjects. Her favorite traditional media include charcoal, pastel, and graphite.

Animated movies were the biggest inspiration for Pelley as a child. The idea of visuals telling a story always intrigued her, and it’s been the catalyst that has continued to spur her imagination.  “I want my pieces to tell a story all their own for the viewer to interpret. Just like poetry can be understood in many different ways, art is also subjective to each individual and I hope to bring that out in every piece I make.”

Currently, she is a freelancer and her work has been seen in conferences, holiday events, and local art shows.

After high school, Pelley plans to enroll in the American Academy of Art in Chicago to study in the field of illustration.
